Charles and Jane Tuck

My love for bulldogs started as a small child. As a young adult I was busy with my family and felt that I could not afford nor had the time to devote to a bulldog. When my youngest daughter went to college I decided it was time for a bulldog. My first bulldog was a pet. Soon after I purchased her I attended a dog show and was hooked. So, I went in search of a show prospect and found a 14 month old bitch. I took her to a show and she had her own ideas about showing. She held her head on the floor the entire time in the ring but I was determined. I met a man named Hinds Poth at the Texas Specialty and he suggested that I might find a nice male and breed her to try for a nice show prospect. I took his advice and had 5 beautiful puppies. Because of my inexperience with bulldogs and raising bulldog puppies I lost them all but one because the mother’s milk was toxic. The one that survived was a tiny female that we called pound puppy because she was 5 weeks old before she weighed a pound.

I was heart broken from losing the litter but grateful I had the one little girl. I called the owner of the Champion sire to see if he had a nice show prospect. He told me he had a little male and asked how my little girl was doing. He wanted to see her so I went to see the male puppy and when I arrived I sat her on the ground (she had the most pleasing gate I have ever seen) he said you may not want my male you have an excellent show prospect. I purchased the male anyway and when they were six months I starting showing both. I lost the male puppy at a show because he over heated. He was winner’s dog that day and I was so sad. The little female finished fast in limited showing and became my first home bred champion as well as my first champion. The rest is history.

I have owned bulldogs for about 20 years and have been showing for 14 years. I do not breed often only when I need something to show. I do not like selling bulldogs to just anyone. I am very picky about the homes in which I place my bulldogs. I feel we have to many dogs of all kinds in rescue because owners are not responsible breeders.

One of the most fulfilling things in my life is my relationship with Jesus, my love of my family and the love of my bulldogs. I have had so many wonderful times with my bullies and many heart breaks (when you have to say good-bye to one of your babies is the worst). In all it has been worth every cost. I still am showing but not as much as they early days, I am getting on up in age and sometimes I have to travel alone so I go to shows that are close to home.
